Help My Mom Walk Again

You may have noticed that there hasn't been as much activity here at Glass Elements in the past few months as you've come to expect. I was keeping the details pretty quiet, but it's time to share with you.

 Help Marcia Walk

My parents were in a traumatic car accident earlier in the summer, leaving my Mom, Marcia, in a wheelchair with limited movement and sensation below her neck.

My husband and I have started a fundraiser to help get my Mom the care she needs to walk again, to dance again, even to hold her great-grandchildren again.

Please donate—but if you can't, please SHARE THIS: youcaring.com/marcia-huhta-654257

Thank you!

There and Back Again

Looking forward to heading back there again!  Photo © Howard Ignatius

Two years ago we moved to the Bay Area to pursue a fantastic opportunity. We packed up our home and my studio in Seattle and headed out for a new adventure. Since then, I enjoyed meeting so many lovely people and being involved in the creative communities that call the Bay Area home.  I'm so thankful for the SFEtsy team that welcomed me with open arms and offered many opportunities to grow my business. Moving my studio into Makers Workspace allowed me to participate in my first Open Studio in my own studio space - a goal I've had since I started Glass Elements in 2008.

Even though the Bay Area has been good to us -- Seattle still calls.  It's a place we belong, that we think of as home. So, given the opportunity to head back to Seattle, we jumped on it. We're looking forward to reconnecting with friends, visiting favorite places and creating new opportunities.

Due to the move, I've pared down my show schedule and will only be participating in two shows in the next two months: Anacortes Arts Festival in Anacortes, WA over Aug 7-9th and BAM Art in the Park in Boise, ID over Sept 11-13th.

I'll also be putting my online shops on hiatus starting Aug 3rd and will reopen them after we settle into our new space in September. Please place any orders by Aug 2nd so I can fulfill them before packing up the Glass Elements studio.

Thanks for the adventure CA! I promise to visit!

Join me in Niantic for the 4th of July!

I'm excited to be back in my home state of Connecticut this Independence Day weekend!

I've packed up all my new work and will be participating in the 55th Annual Niantic Art and Craft Show on Saturday and Sunday July 4-5th - my only show on the East Coast in 2015.

Join me and 140 juried artists at this event held at the East Lyme Town Hall Grounds.  In conjunction with the art show, and to make it extra East Coasty, the Niantic Lions host their annual Lobster Festival!

I hope to see you there!

Studio Interview with Academy of Handmade

The Academy of Handmade heard I was moving into a new studio space, and asked me a few interesting questions:

One of the biggest steps you can make in running your own business is going from your home to an outside space. It's both a risk and reward. And while it's not a "next step" for everyone, there are a lot of advantages it can provide. We thought we'd ask Marja Huhta of Glass Elements {AHAS member} about moving into her new space and the when, why and how of deciding to branch out from a home studio.

Head on over if you'd like to learn more: Working It: A Peek into Glass Elements' New Space and let me know if you'd like to see more photos from my new studio space by commenting below!

My local SF Bay Area Etsy Street Team SFEtsy has added a new weekly feature: the SFEtsy Trend Report. This week's report is focused on flowers and what is "in bloom":

With the arrival of beautiful weather all around the Bay Area and after all those showers, beautiful floral prints are popping up everywhere! This weekend is the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show down in San Mateo. Not only will you see vibrant and colorful blossoms at the show, but our SFEtsy artisans offer an amazing collection of floral items! Check out that is "in bloom" this week on Etsy!

I was surprised & honored that one of my Whimsical Flower Necklaces made the Trend Report this week:
