Glass Elements

As we approach Valentine's Day, I find myself surrounded by hearts in the studio, a traditional gift for a Valentine sweetie.

I find hearts fun and challenging to craft. They take more skill to coax out of glass than a rectangle or square. Since I hand-carve each piece, they come out completely unique each time I make one. I remember being so thrilled when, after much practice, my hearts started turning out exactly how I wanted them to! As happy as that made me, I didn't realize the impact one of these hearts could have on someone else until a customer shared the following story with me.

The Story of the Heart of Glass

Sheryl ordered a silver glass heart for her love last year and then shared this beautiful story with me, one that she had always told her daughters:

When someone gives you their heart you treat it like glass, it's fragile so wherever you go, whatever you say and whatever you do you take it with you and don't do anything to break it.

She was surprised to find out that her soon-to-be husband purchased a blue Glass Elements heart for her as well. They traded their Glass Elements hearts as a token of their love for each other.

Isn't that beautiful?

Every time I craft a heart of glass pendant now, I think of the story above and it uplifts and inspires me to create hearts long past the "heart season" of Valentine's Day. I am honored that they chose to share my work with each other, and that many others have also gifted hearts of glass to their loves. Being a part of that connection through my work is a beautiful experience. Because of this, you'll almost always find a listing for a heart of glass in my etsy shop - like this Made to Order Diamond Heart, or a One of a Kind Heart that appears when I'm just playing around in the studio.

What about you?

Do you prefer the traditional heart shaped pendant as a Valentine's gift or do you prefer jewelry that isn't as literal?
